The Lagos State Government through the State Rescue Service has revealed the cause of the fire which destroyed many residential makeshift structures in Ikate-Elegushi axis in Lekki on Sunday.

Following the fire disaster, many residents have been rendered homeless and stranded.

Director of the State Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, in a statement on Monday, said the fire incident started in one of the rooms within the shanties.

“Efforts by firefighters successfully contained the fire, as they employed defensive firefighting tactics to prevent its spread to upscale property and mitigate further potential threats.

“Notably, the fire was challenging to control due to the involvement of 65 camp gas canisters, which posed an explosion risk. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties,” the statement partly read.
