At the 2024 World Children’s Day celebration in Lagos, UNICEF and the state government pledged to tackle climate change's impact on children, ensuring their rights are protected.

Why it matters: Nigeria ranks among the top three countries where children face the highest climate risks, threatening their health, education, and survival.

Go deeper: Commissioner of youth and social development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, reiterated the government’s dedication to the Child Rights Law, while UNICEF’s Celine Lafoucriere stressed the urgency of addressing climate change to secure children’s futures.

Quote: “Child rights are human rights and are non-negotiable. We will never cease collaborating to create a safer planet for children,” Lafoucriere said.
