List of interesting alternatives to DSTV/GOTV in Nigeria
There have been public outcries and heated reactions since Wednesday, April 17, when the broadcasting firm, MultiChoice, owner of DSTV and GOTV, announced its decision to increase the prices of its packages in Nigeria with effect from Monday, May 1. Many Nigerian subscribers are wondering about the rationale behind the increment which is the third since April 2023 at a time when they are forced to go through untold economic hardship. On its part, MultiChoice is blaming rising business operation costs for the price hikes. The company points to currency depreciation, with the naira’s value dropping significantly, and high inflation pushing up its expenses.
Speaking to its customers, MultiChoice had said in an email announcing the hike: “We understand the impact this change may have on you – our valued customer, but the rise in the cost of business operations has led us to make this difficult decision.”
