LASU's Dean of Student Affairs dismissed over certificate racketeering allegations
A source within the university's administration confirmed to PUNCH on Wednesday morning that the Dean had been removed and that Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, a senior lecturer in the Department of Political Science, had been appointed as the Acting DSA.
Lagos State University (LASU) has terminated the appointment of Prof. Tajudeen Olumoko's as Dean of Student Affairs, following allegations of extortion and certificate racketeering.
The allegations, reported by a news outlet, uncovered a fraudulent scheme that offered Lagos State University degrees to individuals for a fee of N2 million to N3 million, with prices varying depending on the academic program.
The management of the institution, in a statement signed by spokesperson Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile on Tuesday, said “its own inquiries into the allegations will be concluded before the end of 2023."
"Consistently with applicable law, the outcome of the inquiry will be published, and appropriate action will be taken,” he added.
