Lagos expands fresh food market with 'Ounje Eko' scheme, slashes prices by 25%

After weeks of experimenting with the Fresh Food Market model, where food stuffs sold for discounted price, the Lagos State Government today rolled out an expanded scheme across five divisions in the State, where various food items would sell at 25% discount.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who disclosed this, noted that staples such as rice, beans, garri, bread, eggs, tomatoes, pepper, among others, will be available at the markets.

For the purpose of the scheme, Lagos has been divided into five divisions namely Ikeja, Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and Lagos (Eko).

Omotoso added that a voucher system will be introduced at the markets in the pilot phase, with the aim of stemming sharp practices and ensure the items on sale reaches a large number of Lagosians.
