Is Shoprite closure affecting Ikeja City Mall?

In late 2025, Shoprite, a major retail supermarket chain in Nigeria, denied reports that it had shut down operations in Lagos.

At the time, the company said it was undergoing a restructuring process and that its stores were open and fully operational.

However, by March 2026, things look different on the ground.

The Shoprite outlet at Ikeja City Mall was under lock and key when Ikeja Record visited recently.

But what does this closure mean for businesses inside the mall? Considering Shoprite’s brand appeal and commerce pull, is its closure affecting foot traffic at the mall?
