Ikeja Record launches an ultimate guide to beaches in Lagos
When we started Ikeja Record in 2023, our goal was to report Lagos with new lenses. But we did not just want to tell the city’s stories, we wanted to take a collaborative, community-guided approach.
In listening to feedback across our social media channels, we discovered that while Lagos boasts one of the longest coastlines in West Africa, not many residents – and visitors – know enough about its beach offerings.
Our beach guide is designed to help fill some of that knowledge gap. Focusing on beaches in three major areas – Elegushi, Tarkwa Bay and Okun Ajah – we have attempted to make a compass that can help you navigate Lagos’ aquatic splendour.
For each beach, we provide information on where you can find them, what they offer, how they operate, the safety measures they have in place, and their digital presence. Our reviews are aimed to be constructive and informed by our reporters’ visits to the beaches, combined with desktop research.
It is also important to note that the world is a dynamic place. While we have made strenuous efforts to make sure the information in this book is accurate, change is constant: businesses go under, prices go up. So, it is still important to do your own research when planning a beach trip.
With all the caveats expended, we hope you can provide us with some feedback on how to make this guide better. Our goal is to update this resource as frequently as possible, to keep it current and useful. Your thoughtful suggestions are invaluable in this journey.
