Energy-to-Waste: Lagos to power 40, 000 homes with electricity from refuse
The Lagos state government has announced its plan to generate electricity from solid waste and power not less than 40,000 homes across the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known on Tuesday via his X page and added that the state government would partner with Harvest Waste Consortium based in Amsterdam to achieve the feat.
Harvest Waste Consortium is a spin-out company of the 142-year-old waste management company of the municipality of Amsterdam. The company is already working with a wider network of partners to develop opportunities for many countries.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the high-efficiency Waste-to-Energy plant will be built on the Epe landfill. He added that the project will transform the state's waste management and energy production.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the new waste-to-energy plant will process 2,250 tonnes of waste daily, generating 60-75 megawatts of electricity annually.
