A community in Ojokoro LCDA, Egbatedo Panada, has called on the state government to help solve the persistent flooding that has affected the area for over 24 years.

Flooding is a major problem in Lagos, which is bordered by several freshwater rivers, a lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean. According to one report, flooding costs Lagos up to $4 billion per year.

The CDA chairman of Egbatedo Panada told Ikeja Record that outdated drainage systems, particularly a blocked underground channel beneath a major railway line, has exacerbated the flooding.

“We are working on it and need to investigate properly before the problem can be solved," an official from the Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources told the Record.
